Rebbeca’s Story: My Career at SCA Care
Hi, my name is Rebecca, I’m a Field Care Supervisor here at SCA Care. Thank you for taking the time to read about my career journey!
I started my career in Care when I 18 years old, my decision to work in Care was influenced by my mum’s own career and passion for Care in the community.
When I first started I was really apprehensive and wasn’t sure what to fully expect.
My worries were, making mistakes, forgetting something, letting the customer and SCA Care down but all of my worries were put to rest by the comprehensive training and one to one shadowing I received from the existing Care Team. I was a little nervous supporting male customers and driving to and from customers at first, but I slowly started gaining confidence and I became the primary carer for a lovely gentleman for 3 years.
I have now been caring in the community for over 15 years, I still to this day find being a carer very rewarding and it’s a comfort to know that what I do makes someone else’s day that little bit brighter.
I always start my day by walking into the customers’ homes with a smile and positive attitude. I feel very lucky to be invited into our customers’ homes, having the same carer for the majority of their visits enables continuity and we are able to build a positive, trusting relationship. By developing a mutual understanding, they find comfort in recognising a familiar presence each day, making them feel at ease.
If I have any concerns or questions relating to a customer or my personal circumstances, the SCA Care Office Staff are always on hand to help with these and resolve them promptly, allowing me to always feel supported at work.
Two years ago I decided to apply for the role of Field Care Supervisor, I had been thinking about progression within SCA Care for some time but due to personal circumstances the timing didn’t align.
I was delighted, excited and nervous to be offered the role of Field Care Supervisor and my Registered Manager, Emma was there to support me and develop my knowledge and skills required for my new role within the organisation.
Two years on and I feel that I have learnt many new skills with help from Emma and the two Home Care Co-ordinators Candice and Charlotte. My confidence grows each day with their support and assistance.
Looking to the future and when the time suits, I would definitely consider exploring other potential career pathways available within SCA Care.
I can’t express how much I enjoy working with SCA Care and I am so pleased I followed my heart and started a career with SCA Home Care.
