We’ve launched a new community-based support service
We’ve launched a new day and sleep-in support service for vulnerable people in our community to ensure they remain safe and well (December 2021).
Our SCA Care team is creating roles for 20 new Support Workers, so that we can develop and extend our new service.
Stephanie Kitcher, our Complex Care Manager, says: “This is an exciting and brand-new support package that will enable those who need support to move into their own independent spaces and we’ll be making a real difference to an individual’s life. We’re able to look after all our current service users but we’re aware there is growing demand to help others in the city, so are looking to recruit people before Christmas.”
Person-centred approach
The new provision is designed to support individuals through a person-centred approach, so they can achieve their aspirations, socially, emotionally, physically and culturally.
Stephanie continues: “We’re currently looking for compassionate Support Workers to help a gentleman in his early 30s, who will shortly be moving to his own bungalow in Totton.
“Our primary purpose will be to support him so he can lead a meaningful, happy life. Our team will empower him to pursue hobbies, support his health and wellbeing, and be a part of the local community. He loves cooking, baking and art, watching films and gaming on his computer. Therefore, we’re looking for people who have an interest in these hobbies too.
“Our new team members will not only spend morning and afternoon shifts with him, but they will also need to sleep over.
“We’re also keen to find Support Workers to assist a young man in his 20s who currently lives in the Gosport area. This young man is an avid film buff, therefore an interest in films would be an advantage, particularly Harry Potter and Marvel ones!”
Work with us
Stephanie and our SCA Care team would like to hear from experienced, empathetic and resilient Support Workers, deeply committed to assisting people with additional needs, who can present challenging behaviour.
She adds: “We’re looking for individuals who are compassionate, observant and patient and confident in handling potentially difficult situations. They will be skilled in monitoring changes in mood and developing techniques to calm and de-escalate. Ideally, they will have knowledge and experience of complex needs including autism. They’ll also be able to communicate clearly and sensitively with vulnerable people and their families.”
Flexible working
SCA Care offers flexible working arrangements that would be suitable for parents coming back into the workforce after paternity or maternity leave or students, wishing to work around their studies.
New recruits at SCA Care are given their birthday off as a paid day’s leave, free uniforms, free training, PPE and all the equipment they need to make their calls. They also receive above average rates of pay, £10.50 plus per hour, with enhancements for those who are qualified, with sleeping nights paid at £55 per night. As well as 30 days paid holiday inclusive of bank holidays, paid mileage and payment for any time someone spends travelling to and between calls.
Providing independence
“We’re looking for people who enjoy helping individuals to be independent through companionship, providing reassurance and enabling confidence. Those that join us should be just as happy assisting with cooking and domestic duties as they are with personal care, attending appointments and social activities.
“We cover all the costs of DBS checks and training for staff who remain with us after their probationary period and pay staff to attend training sessions. We offer new recruits an induction and on-boarding programme, as well as buddying-up with other experienced team members, and we provide career development through training, learning and gaining relevant qualifications including QCF. We also offer flexible working hours, both full and part-time, plus competitive wages and a generous holiday allocation.
“Plus, as a not-for-profit organisation, every penny we make in surplus is reinvested back into the wider communities we work with.”
