Care is job for life in Southampton – those made redundant urged to apply
Care roles represent jobs for life in economically uncertain times following the recent news of falling retail sales and job cuts.
Care is a job for life
Our profession represents one of the few jobs for life left in the country.
As a nation we have an ageing population that wishes to remain living at home and, that the authorities realise, are emotionally and physically better off at home. This means the care sector is rapidly expanding, as people need care in their old age, so there will always be jobs available in care.
Importance of carers
We hope after the publicity of carers and support workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, people now have a newfound respect and understanding of care and see it as a highly skilled, professional, vocational occupation that is essential to the fabric of our society. Carers deserve admiration and respect.
With a job for life like this, people can start at the very bottom and work their way up and we will offer them full training, access to industry-leading qualifications and a career pathway.
Falling retail sales
It was also recently announced that retail sales fell by 1.4% in March 2022, after a decline of 0.5% a month earlier as shoppers adjusted to rising costs. With the rising cost of living, consumer confidence is at an all-time low and there are risks of many retailers cutting jobs too.
The Royal Mail also recently announced its plans to axe jobs and cut costs by £40m a year. While unemployment is at an all-time low, many experts expect a rebalancing with jobs going in specific sectors that are not performing well due to rising costs, poor sales and other logistical issues brought on by Brexit.
These are worrying times for anyone who works in a customer-facing role, as the nation’s shopping and leisure habits are likely to change dramatically in the coming months, which is why we are urging anyone out there who has already lost their job, is concerned about their future or is thinking about a new career direction, to consider a career in care.
Take on a career in care
We’re looking for friendly, kind, compassionate and dedicated people and value personality and passion before education. Having the right attitude and values is essential. No experience is necessary, as we cover all the costs of DBS checks and training for staff who remain with us after their probationary period and pay staff to attend training sessions. We offer new recruits an induction and on-boarding programme, as well as buddying-up with other experienced team members, and we train staff to an industry standard with all employees completing a Care Certificate.
We also offer flexible working hours, both full and part-time, competitive wages, from £10 per hour for Home Care, Extra Care and Complex Care, depending on qualifications, plus paid travel time, and a generous holiday allocation, including giving an additional free day for a team member’s birthday.
Career pathway
Joining us is a great opportunity to achieve a recognised qualification and they’ll also be able to access a career pathway, if they wish, through to management. Plus, you’ll be joining a charity, not some large money-making machine, we’re here for those we support and not-for-profit.
New recruits are given their birthday off as a paid day’s leave, free uniforms, free training and all equipment needed to make their calls. They also receive above average rates of pay, as well as 30 days paid holiday inclusive of bank holidays, paid mileage and payment for any time someone spends travelling between calls.
