Kevin returned to England following a spell teaching English in Hong Kong. He was struggling to find enough work without a formal teaching qualification.
Kevin returned to Southampton to study for his certificate in teaching English as a foreign language. He went along to Cobbett Hub and Library for access to the computer and printer. Kevin had very few digital skills when he first started his course, but he has found the library volunteers and staff very supportive.
He’s found the library to be a peaceful study environment with plenty of resources at his fingertips, from books and access to the internet, with the willingness of staff and volunteers to help him when he needed it. Kevin is now confidently using the computer, due to the patience and willingness of our staff and volunteers to share their skills.
‘I’ve used the library as a place to study for the past three months. The staff and volunteers have been really helpful and it’s meant I’ve been able to achieve my goals and aims. It has been like a second family and I have felt a real sense of community spirit whilst I’ve been here.
I’m now happier, more positive about the future and confident. I’ve also achieved my certificate.
