Bob had a stroke in early January 2015 and spent a short time in hospital. Whilst visiting Bob in hospital June noticed a sign for dial-a-ride and spotted an advert about the stroke club. She thought nothing more of it and when Bob returned home her time was taken up caring for him.
Following Bob’s stroke he is unable to drive the car and has limited mobility, and June doesn’t drive either.
A few months after returning home from hospital, and as life became calmer, June began looking for ways to get out and about over the summer. June remembered the dial-a-ride advert she had seen and got in touch with SCA Transport. June was also struggling to do her big weekly shop and they couldn’t attend the stroke club as the bus journey was too difficult, including a long walk to the bus stop and a change of buses.
They took the decision to try dial-a-ride and they haven’t looked back.
June and Bob use dial-a-ride at least twice a week , once to go to the supermarket and once to attend the stroke club.
June told us: ‘ You can rely on dial-a-ride. If they say they will be there, then they will. They are really reliable. It also brings peace of mind, it’s nice to know there is someone to help, and they really do go above and beyond. On one occasion, out of our control, we missed the bus. Darren rang and realised that something had happened, and arranged for the bus to come back and collect us. Only dial-a-ride would do that. Our family are also pleased that we can use this service, it means that when they come and take us out they can take us to exciting places, the shopping is already taken care of.’
Bob is extremely grateful to dial-a-ride: ‘I think they’re brilliant, the drivers are always cheerful and we have a good chat.’
