SCA Care Emma picked as one of the 12 Carers of Christmas!

21st December 2021

SCA Care's CQC Registered Manager, Emma Sheldon

Emma is one of the 12 Carers of Christmas!

Our CQC Registered Manager at SCA Care Emma Sheldon has been selected as one of the nation’s 12 Carers of Christmas.

The 42-year-old, mum-of-one, was picked by Care Planner, the company that provides bespoke planning software to the home care industry, after she was nominated by her team for the accolade.

‘Absolutely delighted’

Emma says: “I am absolutely delighted, but I also want to give some recognition to my team as well, who work tirelessly to keep vulnerable people safe and well and living in their own homes where they are at their happiest.”

Emma has physical care needs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year so has lived experience. She started her career in care as a coordinator and is now a registered manager.

‘Care was in my blood’

“I joined the profession as I was appalled by the poor quality care out there. I soon realised that care was in my blood and I found a career pathway through to where I am today. As I have lived experience of care, my role gives me the chance to give back.

“Here at SCA Care, we’re a charity, not a money-making organisation, and although we’re a reasonably large, solid care provider, that has been around for 30 years, we’re not numbers orientated. It’s all about the people and we all feel valued and cared for.

“We care for each other, and we care for our customers. We look after everyone’s wellbeing. It’s a cliché, but it’s so true, sharing is caring.

Here for our customers 110%

“Also, what stands SCA Care apart from other care providers is its lack of hierarchy. Here it’s like an inverted triangle, one that’s turned upside down, with our customers at the top. That’s so important. We’re here for our customers 110%.

“There’s nothing we wouldn’t do to make sure they are well, and physically, socially and emotionally comfortable. Every member of our team goes over and above, as a given, and we all share the mantra ‘do as you would be done by.’”

Care Planner launched its 12 Carers of Christmas two years ago and each subsequent year it has called for inspiring stories from home care providers around the UK.

Uplifting & heart-warming

Lorcán Murray, Marketing Executive for Care Planner, says; “We loved Emma’s nomination and are delighted she is one of our 12 Carers of Christmas! Finding out about Emma and how she continues to care for people despite her condition is uplifting and heart-warming. We hope this will help show Emma how appreciated she is and demonstrate to lots of other people how important home care is, and how blessed we all are to have carers like her.”

The initiative is designed to give individual carers extra recognition at Christmas and to also celebrate all home carers UK-wide.

The team at Care Planner pick 12 winners and publish their stories in the run up to Christmas every year. Each carer featured also receives a £50 Amazon voucher.

Vital member of team

Ricky Rossiter, our Director of Integrated Services, who started his career in care as a carer and has progressed through to his current role, says: “Emma is a vital member of our team who goes above and beyond to help those in our care and those she manages.

“She is a motivated, positive individual who brings warmth and empathy to our organisation every day and is an inspiration to us all.

“Her lived experience of care gives her an invaluable insight into what our customers need, and this has strengthened our team tremendously.”
