I use dial-a-ride to go to a pensioners club every Wednesday.
A few years ago, before I had heard of dial a ride, I was at the pensioners club with a friend, and it was tipping it down with rain. She used dial a ride to get to and from the club and I thought it would work much better than waiting in the rain at a bus stop! After that trip I decided to find out more about dial a ride. I called the office and they sent me the forms to fill in. The telephone number for dial a ride is such an easy number to remember.
At the time my nurses also told me to use dial a ride and to get a life line fitted at home in case I fell. I have now been using dial a ride for over 10 years, twice a week. I go to my pensioners club on a Wednesday and I do my shopping on a Thursday. Occasionally I will book for a Saturday so I can go and visit a friend. I live at the top of a steep hill and you can’t park outside so my friends have stopped coming to visit me, I have to go to them.
Without dial a ride I would be stuck at home. I have arthritis in my spine and can’t get into a car. bDarren on the phone is always very helpful. One week I didn’t book my shopping trip for a Thursday and he phoned to see if I was ok.
The two regular dial a ride drivers are very polite and friendly. They escort me to the bus and let me stop to catch my breath on the way. They give me plenty of time.
I’ve lived here for the past 52 years and it’s nice to know I can stay here. I like it here – all my memories are here and it’s nice and quiet. Without dial a ride I’d never be able to leave home and I’d have to move to a residential home.
I ride on the buses with my friends, its where put the world to rights. I’ve made new friends through the dial a ride trips. Recently I saw someone on the dial a ride bus that I hadn’t seen for 14-15 years.
